NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Nashville police are partnering with companies to put up signs on pay boxes that include the location number, address and name of where a car is parked.

Metro Police Sgt. John Bourque told WTVF-TV in Nashville that too many people are reporting their cars as stolen when the vehicle was either towed or the owner forgot where he parked it.

Police say just last year more than 38 percent of auto theft reports were unfounded, they were cars simply misplaced.

Along with location information, the signs being posted will also have a smartphone QR code that can be scanned. A text will be sent to the number.

One of the companies involved, Standard Parking, say they will begin putting up the signs next week.
